As the page loads onto the screen it brings up a notice to the
user that a Shockwave plugin is required for this page. It would be a good feature to add
a link to the download page for Netscape or Explorer so that the user can instantly be
linked to a site that can provide the appropriate plugin or assistant. The next warning
message appears telling the user that frames are used on this site and a browser that can
handle frames must be used.
Fig. 2: Title page entrance.
Developed in Macromedia Flash, it consists of the DETR logo and
title in the background which has been edited to give it a 'stony' feel. The
black borders bring out the definition of the page.
The text and buttons scroll on using a 'tweening'
action that is available on this software. 'Tweening' is a control mechanism
that is a built in feature of Flash that will work on any text, graphic, button or movie
clip.
For each of the categories available to the user there is a
different coloured button with a title. When the user negotiates the mouse over the
button, it is instantly activated so that the user is aware of where they are over that
button. A brief message appears in the top black border informing the user of what is
meant by the title and provides information on how to interact with the page, for example,
when the mouse is over 'Cycle Security', the message says, 'Click here for
more information on Cycle Security'.
The layout was designed in Flash and then put through another
software package known as 'Aftershock'. This basically codes up the Flash movie
into HTML using Java and Javascript. This is an excellent package to use and play with to
create animated web pages and sites.
